Recipe Notes

I love making giant monster cookies and all it takes is a big cookie scoop. The most important thing about this monster cookies recipe is to add the ingredients as they are listed, combining well at every step. It’s also not necessary to grease your cookie sheet for this recipe.

Ingredient Notes

Dark Brown Sugar – A firmly packed cup of dark brown sugar weighs roughly 7-8 ounces which is slightly heavier than light brown sugar. So, 1 ½ cups of dark brown sugar weighs between 11-12 ounces.

Creamy Peanut Buttergives your cookies that sweet-salty peanut buttery flavor. It also acts as a binder in your monster cookies recipe to replace the flour and add a ton of protein. Feel free to use crunchy peanut butter for some extra texture.

Quick Cooking Oatmeal – adds fiber and gives your monster cookies some chewy substance. The quick cook oats combine with the peanut butter for a soft chewy cookie consistency that is uniform and addictingly delicious. If you only have old fashioned oats, they will work fine in your monster cookie recipe but your cookies will have a slightly different texture.

Chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, M&Ms candies – Sweet crunchy goodies that add tasty surprises! They also give you the opportunity to substitute healthy goodies like raisins or nuts.

Storing Tips

Your monster cookies recipe will stay fresh and tasty in a food grade plastic container with a secure lid. It helps to store a piece of bread in the container with your cookies to soak up excess moisture, so they don’t get too soft and sticky. If you’re out of bread, then a tortilla will also work.

Can You Freeze This?

Yes!! You can freeze these monster cookies to keep a convenient stash of this monster cookies recipe handy. Pack up a tasty package of these baked cooled cookies and toss them in the icy abyss or freeze the cookie dough raw. I like to go ahead and portion out the cookies before I freeze them.

Make Ahead Tips

When I make this monster cookies recipe, I like to whip up a double batch and put one of them in the freezer. I bake a batch and freeze a raw portioned batch. That way I have a few dozen monster cookies in a container for friends and family to munch on and I’ve got some in the freezer just ready to go into the oven.

How Long Can You Keep This?

These monster cookies will stay good for at least a week if properly stored. While they are fine in an airtight container on the counter, keeping them in the fridge will extend their lifespan. Of course, once people taste these cookies, they’ll get gobbled up quickly and you won’t have to worry about long-term storage.

Tweaking this monster cookies recipe to suit your personal taste is super simple. You do have to be careful to keep the measurements proportionate so your cookies will cook properly. Here are just a few suggestions to consider but you can use your imagination.

  • Substitute Reese’s Pieces for the M&M’s
  • Use raisins instead of butterscotch chips
  • Try white chocolate chips instead
  • Add nuts instead of candy
  • Mix in some shredded coconut

Can I Add Some Fruits?

Well, technically you can mix dried fruit into your monster cookies recipe. If you want something a little more fruity you can always try making strawberry chocolate chip cookies or banana oatmeal cookies. You can also add shredded coconut to your cookies or go for the gusto and make coconut chocolate chip cookies.

Can I Add Chocolate?

Between the chocolate chips and the M&M’s, this monster cookies recipe has lots of chocolate in it. Instead of adding cocoa to the mix you can always make double chocolate chip cookies. They’ll tame that chocolate beast within.

If you love chocolate but don’t want to give up that salty peanut buttery flavor, you can take things in another direction and throw together some chocolate peanut butter cookies or chocolate peanut butter bars.

Can I Turn These Into Cookie Bars?

I absolutely love using this monster cookies recipe to make monster cookie bars. It’s like making oatmeal chocolate chip bars with peanut butter and candy in them! You can also keep things really simple and go with delicious buttery congo bars.

Can I Turn These Into No-Bake Cookies?

There’s something magical that happens when you put these monster cookies in the oven. Besides, they have eggs in them so they can’t be like chocolate peanut butter no bake cookies.

If you want to make no bake chocolate peanut butter oatmeal cookies, you’ll need to use a specific recipe designed for no bake oatmeal cookies.

Would These Make For Good Christmas Treats?

Making monster cookies is part of our Christmas tradition that everyone looks forward to! We love using the red and green M&M’s for yummy seasonal colors! When I make monster cookies, I use the leftover chocolate chips to make chocolate chip shortbread cookies.

If you’re not in the mood for peanut butter you can always make crockpot candy or double chocolate snowballs.
